Leadership
Reverend Ron Dyer is Cedarview’s High School Youth Pastor responsible for the High School Ministry. Having attended Cedarview Community Church, home of one80uth, since 1983 he became a born again Christian in September 1987 as a result of attending a Home Bible Study. Eager to learn more about the Christian faith and heritage he enrolled in studies at Ontario Bible College in September, 1988, and received a Bachelor of Religious Studies from Tyndale University College & Seminary in 1996. For his final Field Education credit, Ron assisted the High School Youth Program, known then as Destiny Youth, and has been involved ever since. After 11 years as Adult Leader, in September of 2005 Ron became the High School Youth Pastor, and became ordained in June 2007. He and his wife Diane, his High School sweetheart, have one child, William.
Worship Director Andy Smith is also the Grade 9 Boys Small Group leader and is really a child in an adult’s body. He love youth ministry and has been in it for many, many years. He has a desire to see youth grown closer to God and find true meaning in their life. To earn a living, Andy works as an IT professional, and is amazing at it, and has many other interests – too many to list although being a great dad is number one!
Devotional Leader Steve Paterson is also the Grade 11 Boys Small Group leader. If you have spent any time with Steve you will know absolutely loves sports and living on the eXtreme edge. Whether it is long boarding or mountain biking, Steve gets a huge rush pushing himself to the max. He also gets a huge rush sharing from God’s word, the Bible, with the group each Friday night in the form of the “Two Minute Devo”. Steve works for a multinational company and travels often.
Social Director Amy Luke is also the Grade 10 Girls Small Groups leader. She moved right from student to leader after her grade 12 year. Very strong with fashion and decoration, Amy has contributed much in the decor and layout of the one80uth room, first as a co-op student during the planning of the room a few years ago, and now as the Social Director. Amy is responsible for the food for special events and The Hub, our snack bar. Amy is currently a 3rd year student at Seneca College in Toronto and engaged to another leader, Bob Mercer.
“Uncle” Jim Dietrich has been a youth sponsor since just after Noah landed the Ark! Seasoned and experienced, Uncle Jim has held many roles in youth ministry, such as leader, teacher, and speaker. He played a major role in mentoring Pastor Ron when he began youth ministry many years ago, and he much prefers to hang out with youth than any other people that are trying to get his attention.
Bible Study Oversight will be provided by Rosie Reid in addition to being the Grade 11 Girls Small Group leader. Roise has been involved as a youth sponsor since she graduated from one80uth a number of years ago. Once again this year Rosie will oversee the Wednesday Night Bible study group and has a huge heart for youth and is now involved in full-time ministry with a Christian Camp.
Erin Vecchiarelli is the Grade 9 Girls Small Group leader. Like her sister in Junior High ministry, is a youth leader that has come up from within the one80uth program. Erin is very committed to our group and during her last year as a student had the best participation record for the entire year (tied with one other person). Erin is currently a student at York University.
Jevan Ballantyne is a leader that loves to act like a youth. Often you will find Jevan in the gym in the middle of a heated hockey game, or just chillin’ with the youth. But don’t be mislead, while he is in great shape and very athletic, Jev is also very much a thinker and spends much time sharing the Christian faith with others that are lost in mistruths. After completing a year at Tyndale, Jevan is now a student at York University
Greg Lawrence joined one80uth as a sponsor last year and leader of the Grade 12 Boys Small Group, and is most often seen sitting at the drum kit during worship time. Greg is a gifted musician and audio sound professional, who has attended Cedarview for many years with his wife, Beth. This past summer Greg contributed much time in detecting and resolving audio issues in the one80uth room.
Jean Liberty is the leader of the Grade 12 Girls Small Group and in her second year as a one80uth leader. She came to us from BG Club, and has a heart for the Lord, children, youth, and everyone for that matter! Most of you may know her son Matt. She always enjoys a good laugh, so why not tell her a joke!
Small Groups Director Will Dyer is no stranger to one80uth. He first attended long before he was old enough, and has been a regular part of the group since he graduated High School a number of years ago. Will just completed a BA at the University of Toronto, and this year is in Teacher’s College. William’s wife Sarah is also a leader.
Sarah Dyer attended one80uth through High School and is now an adult leader that helps wherever is needed. While not a leader that is often seen in the spotlight, Sarah is a great person to talk to one-on-one and does much behind the scenes.
Pastor Bob Mercer is the Grade 10 Boys Small Group leader, and joins the leadership of one80uth this year after being the Junior High and Senior High Pastor at an other church. His past experience as the quarterback of his High School team and his degree from Eastern Pentecostal Bible College are a great mix for youth ministry. Bob is never shy about either giving his opinion or jumping into a game or challenge. Bob is engaged to Amy Luke, our Social Director.
Aisling Turtle heads up the Welcome Ministry in ensuring that new people to one80uth are welcomed and connected with other people their age and gender. No stranger to one80uth, Aisling was a youth a few years ago, and after a year with YWAM is now in her second year at Tyndale, hoping one day to be in full time missions sharing the message of the love of Jesus Christ.
