exitKeith wrote a great post in his blog about confession of sin - how we as evangelicals have lost the practice of it.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

He writes:

The Bible talks about confession. When John the Baptizer (who wasn’t Baptist in the least) is baptizing his first disciples we find them confessing their sins before baptism (Matt. 3:6, Mark 1:5). Later James implores us to confess our sins to each other. The confession of sins, out loud and in front of others, seems to have been an important part of the early Church. But now the practice is lost, for us.
